Just what is a Hypocrite?

noun
1.
a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.

2.
a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.

Does a hypocrite set out to be a hypocrite just for the fun of it? I don’t think so. The children of Israel did not turn from God over night nor did they purposely turn away from the only real source of hope for them. Just like today, they were swayed by enticers, convinced by self - because they wanted it their way, or deceived by what they considered necessary instead of heeding the Word of God. Instead of KNOWING God is always there for them.

Read  all of   Hosea 4

We have used the “grace” card so much for an excuse trying to condone our own desires and actions that our conscience no longer pokes at us.

1Timothy 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Totally believing our own lies, thinking we are okay with God when we are in reality soooo very far from him!

So many cry “why” is trouble in the land, why do I have to live this way, barely making ends meet? Look at Biblical history and you will find the answer. Lack of knowledge is the reason we ask why, knowing that when people get comfortable and complacent many times in the Bible we are shown how they turned away from God. They didn’t need Him anymore, He is so outdated and old folksy! We are doing GREAT and want to do life MY WAY! God understands!
Stop asking why and read the Word so that you have the knowledge you need to overcome and know WHY these things happen. Through troubles and trials we are made strong WHEN WE HOLD ON TO GOD. Instead of blaming God for your difficulties, look into your heart and find what is in there. Do you know God and do you know that He is your only hope and salvation for life eternal? Or are you like a petulant child demanding your way, your wants, and your comforts?

As parents we often give in to our children even if we believe that they don’t need what they are wanting. God is a good Father that does not always give you what you want but does give everything that is NEEDED. Yet, if you continue to be rebellious and demanding – He will let you travel that road not intended for you. He will let you take the long way through the wilderness trying to get you to comform to His thoughts and ways. If you don’t, He will let you go your own way to destruction. Hosea 4:17 … let him alone.

Matthew 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Luke 6:39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?

Isaiah 5:11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
12 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.
14 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.
15 And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:
16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.
17 Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.
18 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:
19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:
23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

History – study the Word!

Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.
5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

You and I will find grace in the eyes of the Lord when we live our lives as God intended and not lean to our own understanding. Seek His ways – in His Word. Learn from the Word. Stop making excuses for lack of knowledge and get wisdom!

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
