A young man who had been raised as an atheist was training to be an Olympic diver. The only religious influence in his life came from his outspoken Christian friend. The young diver never really paid much attention to his friend's sermons, but he heard them often.
One night the diver went to the indoor pool at the college he attended. The lights were all off, but as the pool had big skylights, and the moon was bright, there was plenty of light to practice by. The young man climbed up to the highest diving board and as he turned his back to the pool on the edge of the board and extended his arms out, he saw his shadow on the wall. The shadow of his body, was in the shape of a cross.
Instead of diving, he knelt down and finally asked God to come into his life. As the young man stood, a maintenance man walked in and turned the lights on. The pool had been drained for repairs.
Do you know where you will spend eternity? Or are you on the diving board with the lights off?
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Recently, a family member told me to stop preaching and just be family! I was astonished mostly because I had not been preaching "at" him. I daily posted scripture or comments on facebook but they were not directed at any particular person/s. Now I know he was looking and reading but I hate that he thinks one can seperate God from family. His statement that he goes to church (which he doesnt) to hear preaching and goes to facebook to aggrevate and have fun sounds so much like the rest of the world today. Put on the robe of (seeming) righteousness and take it off at the door as they leave. God is not a garment to be discarded at will!
I was told once that a preacher preaches about what they are dealing with or going through. I find this is often true, but also I find that God puts things on our heart and in our mind that we often do not even know why it is there and then we expound on it as the Spirit of the Lord gives the unction to do so, knowing that God has a purpose for it.
Don't stop sharing the love of God with others, you may just be the only "church" some people go to or hear. Like the young man in the story earlier, his friend talking and preaching about God did make a difference! It is so imporatant that someone's life depends on it whether you realize it or not.
And you are the light of the world or you are walking in darkness!
