Some of us dance and look around to see who is watching. We want everyone to know that we are “in the spirit”. Others peek out of the corner of the eye to see if anyone is watching because we don’t want to be undignified, ridiculed or made fun of.
David danced before the Lord. The Word said he danced girded with a linen ephod…. Please don’t’ anyone take their clothes off. The scripture does not indicate here if he was clothed otherwise or not. The ephod was in that era considered a priestly garment.
Perhaps his clothing was not mentioned because his nakedness was not of the flesh…not bare skinned. Perhaps he put off his ego, stripped himself of unrighteousness, pride, and danced unashamedly in worship before the Lord as a priest of God, holy, acceptable unto God. I have seen many dance before the Lord here in this church, but we have become so complacent in our worship that we seem to be afraid to let the Spirit MOVE US. We wait for someone else to do it. We want to bask in the presence of God yet, we want someone else to push or lead us into that spiritual realm.
I have seen Sis. Austin dance before the Lord. She is a beautiful southern lady that loves God. And she was not concerned with who was watching or if they like it or not. She was in tune with God and praising him with all her might! She had fire in her feet.
We must find our way to praise and worship with pure unadulterated love for God and allow our entire being to participate. It is described in the scriptures as “fire shut up in my bones”. When the fire is blazing – you have to MOVE!
We have quenched the fire for so long now….let’s rebuild that fire and DANCE FOR JESUS. I am not talking about sensual gyrations as if you are in the club. Too much of that goes on already, even in the church house. We are not pole dancing in the house of God. If the pole gets in the way though, just dance around it. The only partner you need is the Holy Ghost. Stop watching to see if anyone else is “doing it” or if your friends are watching and laughing. They just might be laughing in the Spirit and happy that you found YOUR FIRE.
The Holy Ghost does not care if you miss a step or two. It is not entertainment for man. This performance is for our heavenly Father and His pleasure at our praise!
We don’t need the temptations of worldly music or dance to entice others to join us. Jesus said that except the Father that sent Him draw someone, they cannot come (John 6:44). This scripture signifies that one must desire God; desire to please God. Anything other than true Spiritual praise - true desire toward God and for God is nothing more than entertainment for man – not God. It is personal satisfaction instead of true praise unto the Lord.
Fire in the feet will make you dance for the Lord. Stir up the fire in our feet Lord. Get the Holy Ghost fire in our hearts, soul, and mind people. Jesus is coming back soon. Praise Him; bring your offering of praise to Him. Stop quenching the Spirit and the fire.
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!
The children of Israel marched around the walls of Jericho, by God’s instructions and those walls fell FLAT.
Paul and Silas were in the jail. They didn’t know how but they knew God and they praised Him. You cannot make me believe that they stoically walked out of there with their nose in the air - arrogant and prideful when their bonds were released. I can see them in my mind DANCING out the doors.
Have you been taken captive? Is your joy turned into mourning? Is your dance full of sorrow? FIND YOUR FIRE IN YOUR FEET!
Let God’s joy return to you, let your dance leap for joy in the Lord. Get the fire in your feet!
Psalms 149:3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
Psalms 150:4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Dance!
